Power Quality and Voltage Disturbances

The structure of the electricity system, why failures occur and what performance can be expected - what will it be like in the future? Standard EN50160 defines voltage quality in public supplies. What does it achieve and where does it fail? The voltage stability of the network will be discussed in relation to the requirements of the equipment that it supplies. Power Factor Correction and Passive Harmonic Filters

The cost of reactive power, supplier tariffs and cost/benefit analysis for power factor correction will be discussed. Practical aspects of power factor correction and harmonic filtering will be presented, including the relative advantages and disadvantages of passive and active filters, connection topologies and economics.
