Q What is the minimum pitch for traditional copper roofing?
A 1 degree, using batten rolls.

Q What is the minimum pitch for long strip copper roofing?
A 3 degrees.

Q In long strip roofing what is the maximum length of a bay?
A This depends on the pitch of the roof. For 3-4 degrees 14.6m, for 4-10 degrees 11.0m, for 10-30 degrees 9.7m and for over 30 degrees 8.1m.

Q Is there a list of copper roofing contractors?
A See lists of roofing contractors on this site. Note that CDA does not operate an approvals scheme for contractors.

Q What finishes are available for copper?
A Bright copper, pre-oxidised copper, pre-patinated copper or post-patinated copper.

Q Can copper alloys be used for architecture?
A Yes, brass and bronze alloys are available.

Q Warm roof or cold roof?
A Warm roofs do not require ventilation and are suitable for all pitches and are preferred for low pitched and flat roofs. Cold roofs require ventilation and should not be used on low or flat pitched roofs.

Q Can patination of the copper be prevented?
A Applying a lacquer is not recommended, particularly when large areas are considered. Lacquers will require regular maintenance over the life of the roof.

Q What is a typical life for a copper roof?
A In excess of 100 years for a correctly designed and installed roof.

Q How is copper fixed to the roof?
A Copper sheets are fixed with clips, some fixed and some sliding, which allow the copper to expand and contract with changes in the temperature. If the copper is fixed rigidly then splits in the sheet may occur.
